Following a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong leaves Beijing for New York City, where he lives with his mother and faces an unfamiliar new chapter. When a friend turns to him for help, Li agrees to compete in a karate tournament, only to discover that his kung fu training cannot carry him through alone. His teacher, Mr. Han, brings Daniel LaRusso into the effort, and together they train Li to combine two martial arts styles for the contest ahead.
