How recommendations work
Tell us a movie you loved, and we match it across twelve dimensions of what actually makes a title work — then we explain each pick.
Genre-only matching fails the moment two films share a genre and share nothing else. Zurmo instead scores candidates across twelve dimensions: genre ground, theme, mood, tone, storytelling structure, era, geography, franchise and world-building, character dynamics, visual style, emotional register, and narrative drive.
The match score
Each dimension contributes a weighted similarity score tuned per market (Hollywood and Bollywood weight things slightly differently). The overall Zurmo Match is a single 0–100 score, but the breakdown behind it is never hidden: every recommendation page shows you the exact dimensions that grounded the match and a plain-language reason.
Diversity, not echoes
Recommenders that only chase similarity produce a wall of near-copies. Zurmo deliberately diversifies results — limiting how many picks can come from the same franchise, director, or era, and reserving room for hidden gems that reproduce the seed's feeling without being obvious.
Why and how it differs
Every recommendation ships with two sentences: why it connects to what you loved, and how it differs. A match that never explains itself is a black box; ours always shows its reasoning.
Live data, editorial care
The ranked list you see is computed against the latest ratings and availability we track. Where we publish a long-form guide, the ranked list stays live and the editorial prose is written around it.
