Marcel and his pubescent son Felix spend twelve days walking with their donkey, Maria, from Munich to the Zugspitze. The trip, intended as an educational measure, becomes a comic and dramatic endurance test as Felix struggles with himself and his mostly absent father, while Marcel faces a new phase in his life. Along the mountain route, unusual people reflect their longings and fears, bringing father and son closer together.
