After Mexico is eliminated before the coveted fifth game yet again, El Abuelo blames a curse and vows to see the national team break it before his remaining months run out. He leads his family on an illegal journey to the United States, then back to Mexico, where they must gather eleven sacred soccer relics and perform a ritual at Estadio Azteca. Betrayals and family revelations complicate their effort as the decisive penalty kick approaches.
