In Poland, Marta shares a room with her sister and grandmother, who tells stories of insurgency. Behind their wall, her parents Tadek and Elżbieta navigate marriage, humiliation, work, and dreams of freedom. After the family acquires an orange Fiat 126p, Tadek and Elżbieta turn to trading and trips abroad, while Marta grows up and falls in love.
