François, a misanthropic novelist known for crime stories, spends his days in their apartment while his partner Colette teaches at the Sorbonne and studies Alfred Hitchcock. When Colette suspects their flamboyant actor neighbor of murdering his wife, the couple's routine is disrupted and their stale relationship is stirred into new activity.
