Michael Hartung runs a hopelessly debt-ridden video store and has spent his life backing the wrong choices. An ambitious journalist presents evidence that, during his Reichsbahn years, Michael organized the GDR’s largest mass escape and was later imprisoned and sent to a lignite mine. Tempted by a lavish salary, Michael confirms the account, even though only fragments of the story are true.
