In Messina during Christmas 1908, thirteen-year-old Peter, the cruel son of a wealthy English family, is buried alive in a Gothic cemetery by a servant boy seeking retaliation. When an earthquake destroys the city, Peter’s location is forgotten. A century later, an English archaeologist and his daughter arrive in Messina, where the buried boy’s story resurfaces.
