After serving five years for robbery, Ettore leaves prison with no home, an estranged wife, and no permission to see the little daughter born just before his arrest. Desperate on the streets of Rome, he targets Nicola, an unusual old man, but finds nothing worth taking in his house. Nicola then makes an extraordinary claim: he is Santa Claus.
