A revolutionary is sentenced to death for anti-national activities, and the punishment brings a prison officer into a battle of wits with the revolutionary’s comrades. They seek to rescue him with help from a reluctant hangman chosen to carry out the sentence. As the officer, comrades, and hangman are drawn together, the planned execution becomes the center of their conflict.
