In French Guiana, young anthropology researcher Eliott leaves on an expedition to study the Otopis, hoping to escape his possessive mother, Chantal de Bellabre. He soon finds the tribe far removed from his expectations, and the expedition becomes a nightmare in the rainforest. Troubled by remorse and concern, Chantal abandons her own work to search for him with Lieutenant-Commander Raspailles and his unhelpful men.
