Set across Egypt from the late 1960s through the 1980s, this family love story follows Ahmed, a young man from a middle-class Cairo household who hopes to become a concert pianist. During the tense summer of 1967, as war threatens Egypt, he begins writing to Elizabeth, an Austrian woman, in a correspondence connected to how the director’s parents met.
