After the young tsar Saltan marries a woman from a humble Russian family, he brings her two sisters to the palace as servants. Their jealousy turns to conspiracy when he leaves for war: after the queen gives birth to a son, they falsify a message about the child, leading Saltan’s wife and infant son to be sealed in a wooden barrel and cast into the ocean.
