Set during the late Bronze Age around 1250 B.C., the film traces the collision of two rising powers. The Trojan prince Paris persuades Helen, Queen of Sparta, to abandon her husband Menelaus and voyage with him across the sea. Upon learning that his wife has been carried off to Troy, Menelaus turns to his brother Agamemnon for help recovering her. Agamemnon, however, recognizes a chance to seize greater authority for himself. United by personal grievance and political ambition, the Greeks muster a thousand ships carrying fifty thousand warriors and set their course for the enemy city.
