Jayaram's Haridas relocates to Trivandrum, where a civil service post was promised through a political connection. The arrangement collapses, forcing him into odd jobs while lodging with his father's friend, retired Major Thilakan. He shares his situation only with the major's daughter Ranjini, and a romance takes root. After the major learns of his trouble, he helps Haridas find a replacement position. Meanwhile, Suresh Gopi's Manu — an old adversary — has claimed Haridas's original post, sparking repeated confrontations.
