Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976, and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He began acting at 13, appearing in small parts on television series. His first lead role came as a teenager in Hillside, which ran from 1991 to 1993. From 1998 through 2001, he led the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl.

His film work included the romantic comedies National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Waiting..., and The Proposal. He also played characters in the superhero films Blade: Trinity, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Green Lantern. In 2015, he appeared in Woman in Gold, a biographical drama, adding a different kind of film to the credits listed in his career.

Reynolds reached his greatest commercial success as Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool, in Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. The first film brought him a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, while Deadpool & Wolverine became his highest-grossing release. Other later film credits include the science-fiction horror title Life and the action films 6 Underground, Free Guy, and The Adam Project.

He has also voiced characters in animated films. Those credits include Turbo, the Croods films, and Pikachu in Detective Pikachu.
