After leaving prison, a man seeks out Yakumo, a traditional comic storyteller whose performance of “Shinigami” inspired him to pursue the art. Yakumo unexpectedly accepts him as an apprentice and names him Yotaro. Among Yakumo’s household is Konatsu, his ward and a storyteller’s daughter who longs to perform despite the profession being closed to women.
