In a world plagued by creatures called Kaiju, Kafka Hibino has aspired to join the Defense Force, having promised his childhood friend Mina Ashiro that they would enlist together. Life takes them in separate directions, and Kafka instead works cleaning up after Kaiju battles. Meeting Reno Ichikawa, whose determination to enter the Defense Force rekindles Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.
