Wei Xiaobao begins at the bottom of society with no martial arts. A chance entry into the imperial palace places him amid court and gang conflicts, and he relies on wit. Posing as a eunuch, he helps Emperor Kangxi capture Obai, becomes Chen Jinnan's closed disciple, and assists Kangxi in attacking enemies. Along the way he grows from a gangster seeking riches through royal friendship into a deer prince who can tell loyalty from evil, surrounded by many different women and living a lively, extravagant family life.
