In the 1940s, Leon and his sons earn their living as sandblasters on the Vistula River. After rescuing a woman and her young daughter from the water, they discover the pair are Jewish escapees from Warsaw. Leon hides them in his home, placing his own family at risk as he struggles to keep the women alive.
