In 1988 Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, an 11-year-old boy fears for his ill grandmother, an old storyteller who insists that Death no longer exists. Her story reaches back to the village in 1927, where extraordinary residents use elaborate tricks to eliminate the Death threatening them, giving rise to legends.
